Panorama Europeo de la ayuda intrafamiliar: nueve encuestas
Abstract
In current debates linking social divisions to a decline in solidarity, the notion of solidarity that emerges is set against a backdrop of social inequality and economic insecurity. This book presents an initial overview of research on kinship support and solidarity Conducted since the 1950s and compares the findings of nine recent surveys in Europe (United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland). Using an identical schema, each survey designer offers a clear and informative description of how indicators were constructed and how the concept of support was approached. The multiple indicators and the main survey results point to the resilience of kinship relations in Europe, despite major changes affecting European societies. Although varying in degree between different social groups and cultures, kinship solidarity is still a reality. However, the norms of kinship support have now become negotiable.
