Second session
The research seminar "Critical Approaches to Metropolisation and its Theories (ACRIMET)", coordinated by Clément Barbier (sociologist and political scientist) and Anne Clerval (geographer), focuses on metropolisation policies, i.e. public and private action that drives the growth of large and medium-sized urban areas and the restructuring of their economies within a globalised capitalist system.
Each session brings together empirical research from different social science disciplines with the aim of fostering critical analysis of these policies, both in terms of their social effects and in terms of the theories that analyse them and sometimes support or challenge them.
The second session, entitled ‘The planning of new metro stations: population policies?’, will feature the following two presentations:
- Anne Clerval (Gustave Eiffel University / ACP-INED): ‘The Grand Paris Express: a gentrification policy?’
- Antoine Lévêque (Paris Dauphine University / Irisso): ‘Social and ethno-racial categories for thinking about urban transport infrastructure? A look back at the unequal construction of the Lyon metro network’
A third session entitled ‘Drivers and implications of the financialisation of cities’ is scheduled for 14 April 2026 at INED (more information to come).
